Anybody else Cappin bees today?

Betting that’s good stuff. I haven’t seen many homey bees in my area, especially after the Japanese Hornets began to show. They are catastrophic to honeybee colonies.
It is. This is lighter in color than what she got last fall. We have alot of sourwood and i think that’s what made up a lot for late season

Hey guys, I ain't no nuttin bout cappin no bees but I did discover this little gem in my yard yesterday! I was wondering if beekeepers have any interest in natural colonies or not. I imagine it would be quite difficult to extract any meaningful amount of honey from this hole but I really don't know anything about it.

I was just joking about shooting bees anyways. I'm feeling weird today in my non existent humor. ;)

No dude. Any one of them who stings you deserves to be shot. Success only boils down to, the gun, the cartridge, and your aim.

Bees that actually that sting you? They gotta die.

:)

Looks a lot like a swarm in progress.

To remove the caps before extracting honey, I use an electric fish fillet knife (Ozark brand) and it cuts the comb clean with very little damage. It's not mess free; but it is a lot cleaner to me. I have one of the little combs for when I have a low capped frame to get the caps off.

Id leave the colony alone but would set up traps to catch swarms when they split.

Checked on my little buddies this morning and they were coming and going at a furious pace! Sure is giving me a hankerin' for some good local honey. Do y'all know of any beekeepers around East Cobb that sell their honey? There used to be a guy over by Walton HS but I haven't seen his sign out for a few years now.:(
