Family selection definitely matters. I have had numerous hooch trout travel 4+ft to hit very specific fly patterns after ignoring many others.

Fly fishing out preforms spin fishing 98% of the time. I do both methods but for trout I will almost always use a fly rod. There are techniques and set ups I have access to with it that allow me to catch fish spin fishermen can't. Plus if I hook a large fish I can land them faster with the larger rod. Back in my prime (aka before wife and kids) could usually have 20+in fish in the net in under 2 minutes

i dont know about that. i use to fly until some guy yrs back talked me into spinning UL. i havent looked back since.
bet i aint tossed a fly in damn near 20 yrs.

We will have to get you back into it. The technology in the rods and the techniques have advanced a huge amount. (More so then spinning). Especially with the rise of contact nymphing and longer rods (10-12ft rods in 1-6wt). You will have to try and see what the rods are now able to do.

It is called contact nymphing since you keep a direct connection to the flies and do not use indicators. Some things have gone way up but there is good quality gear for cheaper then they once ran. For a few hundred you can have w good set up.

Nope, just have to know where to find the fish. Both the wild ones and the pods of stockers.

It happens almost every year. Shrines in the woods at Island Ford. Fake skulls, doll heads, candles, jewelry, etc. The goat thing is real. And has happened more than once. Beheaded and tossed in the Hooch. Hundreds. From 20 all the way to Medlock, Abbotts. Always toward the end of October. I think I posted a pic of a shrine I found on NGTO a couple of years ago.
