Anyone else been burned by "Hogleg Smith"?

Don't really want to make his life miserable...just want to warn others. He came recommended by a local gun range. He is in the Oakwood, Gainesville area. A really nice gentleman....just a lousy smith...at least in my experience. Funny thing is, my FFL told me he know someone who had a similar experience. But the work was already started...too late to stop anything.

It is always unfortunate any time something like this happens but lets not be too quick to judgement. Some of us almost think of our firearms as family so I can understand the feelings that are generated by what is seen as a bad experience. We have heard one side of this situation. I say this because I have been taking a good number of firearms to "Hogleg" for probably fifteen years or so and he has always done a good job for me at very reasonable costs.

Dan.....................north Hall County.

You'd better inform the folks who recommended him exactly how screwed you are!

sounds like he might be good with rifles and revolvers and bad with semi auto handguns?

makes you want to ask for credentials of how they became a smith! who they trained under or what school they went to for it. Not just these online DVD's you can order from now-a-days

Man has worked on numerous revolvers for me. Everything from single actions to Smiths. He does a great job! I hate that the OP had a bad experience. I got nothing as far as his actions in this particular situation. Just really unfortunate. Sounds like he is deff not one for semi autos.
