Have had some experience in this resolving disputes between various parties in the process, learned a fair amount about the chicken farming business,
First thing I learned, if you want to keep on wanting to eat chicken, NEVER EVER go to a processing plant,
Next thing is that "the company" owns the chickens and the feed. There really are no hormones or antibiotics in the feed, because the cost of them showing up far outweighs any potential benefits.
The key metric in the business is the "conversion rate". When the company delivers a pound of feed, how much chicken do they get back for each pound. The farmer gets paid on the conversion rate, the lowest rated farmers get dropped, so there in insane pressure to keep up the conversion rate. The conversion rate is calculated to two decimal places. In other words, 1.00 pounds of feed needs to produce .9X lbs of chicken.
I don't know what it is now, but the conversion rate when I was active in the field was something like 1.5 to 1.
There is really nothing suspicious about the process. Think about it, if you could stay in your air conditioned living room at a controlled temperature, eating nothing but palatable, sweet, high protein food, - eggs and steak whenever you wanted - how much weight would you gain in 7 weeks,
