Anyone familiar with the Amazon Kindle devices?

Sort of interested in a Kindle. But I really don’t know much about them. I see they range from $100 refurb units up to $200ish for the latest and greatest device. Are they worth it and is a subscription the only way these things work? Can I buy books from other sites and not just Amazon? Looking for any pros or cons or should I just stick with physical books?

I've had a white page Kindle for years. Loaded up with a couple dozen books.
I love to read on flights. It stays in my backpack.

I love my kindle paperwhite. You can read in direct sun. I do have kindle unlimited subscription. Not sure if you can use other sites,

I’m pretty much set on getting one. Is the 16gb version adequate or should I bump up the storage. Miatadude BillsCamino

I'll have to look on mine...I don't recall storage capability off hand.

Looks like 16 gb would cover me for at least a few months.

That's probably what mine is. I've never had storage shortage.

I have an iPad , don’t know much about the Kindle . But do like the Amazon membership . I’m a VORACIOUS reader . Not much TV . It’s definitely the way to go . All the used bookstores are pretty much gone now days .

I was given a Kindle and joined Kindle unlimited to download what I expected to be one book. Now I'm totally addicted. BTW if you have not read James Tarr you should check him out. Stories from the front was particularly good
