I stayed at a holiday inn express last night and did a hardwood floor in my foyer when Home Depot had a sale on unfinished wood....

Ok. I think I might be learning a lesson the hard way on staining vs. dying/layering hardwood.
Here are the samples of stain laid out this am.
We chose the dark one at the bottom, dark walnut.

Here's what it looked like when I got there this evening.
Tiger striped, light whites and pinks showing through on the red oak. Not a uniform or dark color that I was anticipating.

I did mine 8 years ago with the same color. Here they are today.

Photo makes em lighter. I am pretty sure there are a couple ways your hardwood guys can get them darker at this stage though.
