Anyone local that does AK work? 07/02 FFL possibly necessary...

This is not a difficult procedure if you have a press and correct press plate. Also, the barrel chop and crown can be done yourself as well.

One of the many videos on Barrel work:

Then just borrow someone's press.

There are tons of DIY threads on restrictor removal on AK specific Forums.

I’ve seen the chop and crown video and I feel like I could do that. Removing the gas block is what I’m not so sure about.

It's not that bad. I was a bit skittish the first time I did it as well but turned out to be no biggie. All you need is this and trunnion support tool pictured below.

The FSB/GB screws into the plate as it's threaded and simply presses off. That's of course after you remove the two pins in the FSB/GB. Be sure to use a penny or copper washer when pressing out the barrel and go slow. make sure the rifle is set straight and true in press.

The trunnion support fixture can be found here:

Just sent out emails to Meridian, Two Rivers, and Ken Kubin. All three seem to have a good reputation from what I can find. The fake can is on the way to make a barrel extension out of. I'll update the thread when I decide what the next step is.

The rifle will be going to Two Rivers either later this week or early next week. Price and turnaround time quoted were both less than I expected, and every example of their work that I've seen looks top notch.
