They use a reusable cable alarm tag I believe.
A lot of gun stores do this...not a big deal to me. They do ask you to check your guns, and they will put a tie on the action if you do. However, they don't pat you down, and you don't pass through any sort of detection device (unless you work there). I'll admit, I carry concealed and I 'check' my gun for no one - unless I am buying an accessory (holster, case, etc.) that I want to test fit before I buy. Only then will anyone even know I have anything on me.

They have you clear your gun, hold on to your magazine, and put an electronic tag on your gun so the alarm goes off it you go through the door. Then it looks like you're stealing your own gun. Concealed is the way to go.
Stupid question here.
How do you check a holster for proper fit with a 1.5" tag hanging off of it and the slide partially to the rear? In the past I took the holster I like to the gun counter an asked to borrow an identical pistol for a minute.

You can't blame them for wanting the only loaded guns in there to be on the staff for protection! I think if you decide to conceal your weapon that's fine but don't get upset if it's seen and your asked to leave! This is a stupid argument because it's a safety issue for the guys who work there! Remember that there are a lot of stupid people that do have firearms! JMHO
Yes there are and quite a few of them work behind the gun counter at AO.
