ar-15's at walmart

You still haven't answered my question either. Who built a better AR than bushmaster prior to 1994?

? Good Lord you're persistent. There's no winners in a discussion of brand with fans especially one as motivated as you seem. If you want a discussion of it, start such a thread. Colt, all day every day. I've said my piece and that's it. :)

I love colt, however prior to 2004 they had non spec oversized fire control pins, sometimes the chambers were chrome and the bores were not, sometimes the opposite. Out of spec take down pins, sear blocks, bolt carriers missing half their mass as they milled the bottoms off, selector stops milled off the lowers and the worst fit and finish in the industry that Colt is still to this day known for.

Armalite was ok if you got one of the guns built to some sort of spec which were few and far between.

DPMS was pretty much low end junk although they were nicer than the **** built under their name today.

Rock River Arms was a new player on the field, entry level budget rifles that you couldn't even get chrome lining if you wanted it.

Eagle Arms was just the budget line of Armalite which considering Armalite was a half step above junk wasn't saying much.

Olympic was just as crappy then as they are now except back then they were still making some cast lowers which were even crappier.

Bushmaster was building the closest to Milspec gun at the time. They were 1/9, didn't park under the fsb and used AR15 carriers (which they all did since the ATF considered an M16 carrier to be taboo until 2004) but other than that were spec rifles that were tuff as nails. Bushmaster did however build a group of rifles that the anodizing looked purple on.

Currently I own three Colts and only one Bushmaster so it's not that I am brand loyal to bushmaster, I just remember what the AR market was in the 90s. A, B, C, Armalite Bushmaster and Colt were the rifles to own, although everybody wanted the Bushmaster.

The AWB sunsetting on September 14th 2004 turned the AR market on its head and opened up the market to a whole host of manufactures which in turn has brought up the quality of most ARs made.

However, all that said, Armalite is still a joke, and now DPMS and Bushmaster are both junk.

i thought dpms is a good ar to own?

Yes dpms is just fine as a starter AR and you will be happy with it. The only AR I would truly caution against is the M&P (though some swear by there's) and the bushmaster Car 15. Sometimes, people read others opinions on things and talk so much on a topic that the reality of the subject is lost and the opinions become more true. Call it "tunnel vision" and sometimes it's called the "sleeper effect". People just like to hear themselves talk and the forums can be the worst about that. Just go with your gut

Why M&P?
