Ar 5.56 question

I'm new to the world of AR's and I recently bought a s&w m&p sport2 rifle. Am I correct in thinking that if I bought a 300 blackout complete upper I could pop it on to my lower and have my choice of calibers or is there more to the conversion? Thanks for any info.

You are correct.

If you get confused with your ammo and load a hollow point blackout round in your 556 upper you will blow it up in your hand if you pull the trigger.

One follow up. Would I have to stick with S&W or are they pretty much universal? Thank you.

there are literally a handful and a half of different caliber uppers to choose from. Just get a good one a not a PSA.

It shouldn’t even be able to chamber in a 5.56 so how could the firing pin could even ignite the round?
