AR quad rail?

Midwest Industries makes some pretty decent inexpensive rails:

Im assuming its not a free float.
Not a fan of ctd but their's was the first to pop up on a web search- $40 plus s&h (which may be significant), has 70 reviews and a high rating.

yep those MI are the prime example of inexpensive quality as far as AR rails go..but since he said he spent all his money..I think he meant even cheaper
I put one of those no name Yankee hill machine rip off quad rails from amazon ($40 for 10")..on somebody's budget build..came with rail, barrel nut, jam nut and anti rotation screw...works and was good enough I guess...there are two types..one with round holes and no notches on the end of the rail ladders (heavier) & ones with oval holes and notches (lighter)...lighter is definitely better on these heavy rails...they are the exact same as at3 tactical' T-series

Find a drop in 2 piece used. eBay is full of them. UTG is cheap and a good temp. until you can buy a free float. MI makes good drop in too for cheap.

Why do you need a quad rail? If you want to attach, say, a vert grip and a light or something, the Magpul MOE handguards will do the job with less weight and less money than a cheap quad rail. I'm all for free-float rails and my go-to AR's wear them, but that isn't a place to cheap out. The cheap quad rails are most often very heavy, ill-fitting, and held to poor tolerance such that you'll have issues getting certain things to fit.
out of the few cheap t-series style quads I've installed for people all worked and locked up well...one of them did have an out of spec barrel nut and wouldn't line up with the studs on the tool...at3 replaced it quickly and all was well...even Noveske had a run of out of spec barrel nuts on the NSRs!
I'm with you on not cheaping out, but on a rail, it's not integral...plus he'll likely replace it anyway once he hates the weight of the cheaper rails.

Just save for a descent product you will actually use. If you "need" a quad rail for the lasers, flashlights, fore grip, etc, go ahead. I just think looking around, handling a few rifles that have what you want now, may be a good idea. I just know how different my AR's are now versus what they were when I got my first. You will find your niche and probably regret wasting the $40-$50 on the el cheapo rail....
