Are Simple/cheap pickup trucks gone forever?

Id love to have one of those new pick up trucks with all the bells and whistles but I’m happy with my man parts and I’d rather have the option of buying a bare bones workhorse that won’t be like paying off a house note.
Does such a new truck exist or are the days of a simple pick up trucks gone forever?
Oh and please bring back the damn floor mounted high beam button.

Base models can still be had rather inexpensively, at least compared to the fully loaded models.

Many of the bells and whistles like backup cameras etc are being federally mandated.

I'm right there with you. My company truck is a fully loaded 08 denali. We just got new fleet trucks at the end of last year. Basically the leather and the heated seats are the only difference in a fully loaded 08 to a 2018 "work truck". I think a truck is a truck, scratches and dings are part of using it for work (my boss thinks differently). I wish they would sell/make a stripped down truck that was reasonably affordable but the ones we just got seemed high to me and we bought 4 at once so I'm sure we got a break on them there as well.

Has the payment on a new fully loaded truck always been equal to a mortgage payment, or is that a fairly new development?

Fully loaded used to mean power windows and power door locks with an FM radio and power steering so I guess it depends on what your definition of loaded is.$56,000 for an F150 Lariat is ridiculous.

Almost as ridiculous as people signing up for a 96 month payment plan. There must be a lot of Schnoocks out there that sign up for the High Finance long-term plans because if you tell them you're writing a check they treat you like you have leprosy.
