"Vigilant argued that a license plate “is essentially a ‘mobile billboard’ that is seen by countless others whenever a vehicle is in public view,” and that since government mandates license plates be publicly visible, “the additional act of recording what everyone can see entails no invasion of privacy distinct from this universal viewing.”

When it comes to license plate readers, “data retention is in fact the most critical issue nationwide,” said Chad Marlow, advocacy and policy counsel for the ACLU. He said the police argument for maintaining data can be summarized as, “Just because, just in case. ‘Just because we’re collecting the ALPR data,'” Marlow said, “‘we might as well keep it just in case one of you might be a criminal.’ That is mass surveillance to a ‘T.'”"

Doesn't stand a chance. Courts have long held that when you are in public, anything visible is fair game.

There is no "right to privacy."

The 4th only applies to things not in plain sight,

The ability to keep that info is the question. They have no more of a right to keep that than they do to keep your browsing history. It's nobody's business that you like midget porn.

I honestly think license plate readers are just give them revenue and take from us tax payers even more, those things are expensive per patrol car ....

I see them now installing them on UNMARKED cars and going around hotels and business

I am going to come up with a tag cover device , that you flip with a switch when you park on private party parking areas to stop this lol

I think they suck. They damn sure don't keep the world safer. Like practically everything else involving govt these days, they are mainly designed for revenue collection.

I do like my midget porn, and damn it I'll toss a dwarf at anyone who disapproves!

There already is a similar device, it's clear so it doesn't obstruct view of the plate, but if something tries to photograph or video it, it won't show up, I forget how it does it but some kind of filter thing. I will try and find it.
