Army Bound!

whoa, sucks about your injury

but you got lucky i guess in some ways. now the army is real fast about med boarding people or puttin them out for an injury. when i went through basic in 2010, they knew the downsizes were coming but still were keeping people as long as possible (they have this cost-benefit analysis about how much a soldier cost them so they try and keep them, or at least use to)

the end result being one of the guys in my basic training company at benning who had a fractured hip stayed a total of 6 or 8 months. another girl in my AIT stayed at fort jackson for 8 months as well for a fracture in her leg. i mean, 8 months sucks when you have limited privileges and just wanna get out into the regular army

take this down time you have now and the limited experience gained and maybe you can find a better position for yourself before re-enlisting, now that you got a taste for it

if you got any other questions, PM me or some of the guys on here.

Thanks! They still try to keep people until they heal. Our battalion commander sent this one guys paperwork back 8 times before he signed it. He had a torn ACL, and had a ranger/airborne contract. But the guy wanted to go home for his surgery, and not the Army docs. My unit wouldn't even give con leave. You would get it, but had to stay with the unit. 30 days no training. They said that whenever they sent someone home, they would never come back trainable, and would get discharged anyway!

a little tip about TRADOC is they are all FULL OF ****

officers and higher up NCO's try to keep people because it looks bad when they leave, they are just being asshats

so glad to be done with that mess, regular army and what not isnt nearly as bad.

*edit*

forgot to add, they cant keep you there. all you have to do is walk away. they arent technically allowed to put hands on you. you cant get a dishonorable discharge at that point. if you were to get separated at any point its an ELS (entry level separation)

all that crap the drill sergeants and folks tell you about getting dishonorable for leaving is just a tactic to keep you there and is just that, complete crap. you can just leave, they stop paying you and as long as you dont have any equipment of theirs, then you dont owe them anything legally

im only saying this because its some **** to keep someone and prolong their discharge from service just so the higher ups can have a good percentage.

my take on it is, if someone doesnt wanna be there and they wanna leave, let them. they dont deserve it at that point. i went through all my training because i wanted to, and glad i did it. everyone who didnt chicken out with me during my training are stand up awesome guys, the ones who quit dont deserve the opportunity to protect this nation and be an american soldier

I was lucky and got a ELS. We had a guy try and quit on the second day, he was still there when I left, not training. I left in week 10. It is a bunch of ****. I didn't like a lot of what I saw with how they operated.

ya, there was a guy like that at mine to, except he was being discharged for a metal plate in his knee

its just going to get worse, thats what happens when bureaucracy gets more and more involved. dude i have had to sit through so many BS class's, you just got the tip of the iceberg

but thats gonna be true everywhere ya go, think about this, after basic i never had a problem waiting somewhere again. in my view i was like "well damn, i can wait at the DMV for a few hours considering i did it in front leaning rest on a regular basis for no reason in the army"
