My granddaddy would put them in a cage and feed them corn for a couple weeks, and grandma would — I assume bake them with sweet taters,I ate it (no choice) it was not my favorite just to greasy.

Yep. If we caught them live in rabbit boxes we'd cage them and feed them good sweet milk and corn. Some folks said it made a difference. I still found it greasy if baked. Frying it was the only way other than boiling it that would even knock the grease down to me. Parboil it tender then a quick flour coat and fry and it is pretty good.
