I was not going to say anything about me being a Mason. However, in light of the man being killed during an “initiation”, I feel I must.

Having been a Mason for a little over 38 years, I have witnessed many “initiations” at my Lodge, and at other Lodges in Georgia. I have never witnessed a handgun, rifle, or any other dangerous weapon being used during any “initiation“. For a Lodge to have sanctioned the use of a dangerous weapon, is deplorable. Something that I would have never been a part of nor would I have allowed this stupid prank to occur.

I am a Christian, and I do not worship at the Lodge. I don’t know any Masons who come to the Lodge to worship. The OP has it right in this respect, Masons do not recruit anyone to be a Mason. It is totally left up to the individual to ask to become a Mason. If you do not want to be a Mason, fine, don’t ask. You can call the Masons a “cult”, you can call it a club, you can call it anything you like, I don’t care. So guys, rant on about what you think being a Mason is or isn’t. You can hate us, ridicule us, but bottom line, if you don’t like what you hear or read, don’t ask to become one.

It’s a shame the OP could not have asked some intelligent questions about Freemasonry instead of being so negative and confrontational. On the other hand it’s good to know from whence he comes with his “bust this wide open” dialogue as it shows his true colors. Sorry if this sounds ugly to anyone but I am just calling it as I see it.

There are a lot more important things that need to be discussed and “busted open” in this world than an organization that is Bible based and built on true Christian principles. As well as building fellowship and goodwill, the Masons/Shriners invest a lot of time and money in helping those less fortunate members of society, particularly children who have suffered terrible burn accidents.

The “Ask 1 2 B 1” campaign was originally started in an effort to bolster the diminishing Masonic membership many years ago, and most senior Masons will tell you that in retrospect it was not a good idea. In many cases the results of this campaign were similar to what we have seen with many of the “affirmative action” programs put in place by our legislators.

Those Masons that I know are very proud of what Masonry has contributed and continues to contribute to society, not the least of which is providing a forum for good, upstanding men to be able to enjoy the fellowship and trust of other like minded individuals.

I've been a Mason for 18 years. My father, Grandfather and uncle were all Masons. I'm damn proud to be in Blue Lodge and will continue into the shrine. I have seen my lodge buy groceries for families in need, make house payments for families that were about to loose their home, buy Christmas gifts (Santa Clause) for little ones who's parents were in bad financial distress, among other things to try and help the community. If this is "taboo" or cult like then so be it. To me it is trying to be a better Christian and help people without expecting anything in return. For all of you that think we are satanic, cult, illuminati, or trying to hide something sinister, I truly pity you. Oh and if you ever really need help or have a child that needs medical attention that you cannot provide. Please just ask a Mason or Shriner, they will do all that is possible to help you.
