hey guys,

I love the look of a classic blued 1911, and I'm pretty set on buying a Dan Wesson Specialist, but they don't come blued (it's only offered in black or silver).

Given the above, is aftermarket blueing a common thing? If so, how much does it usually cost? Are there any tips or advice you guys can offer me on this subject?

Who would you guys recommend in the ATL area (if any)?

Thank you everyone for your time! I did some searching here on ODT but couldn't seem to narrow down to the results I was looking for

I'll check with my local guy, I'm pretty sure he does. I gotta take a S&W Custom I just picked up to him tomorrow to see what he would charge to re-blue it, you can call up there and ask if you want. Moss Firearms, Jasper, GA. He builds custom guns, and I have never been disappointed in anything I've ever taken to him.

When you say they come in only silver or black, is the finish a blued stainless handgun? I haven't looked up the model. If it is a black (blued finish non stanless) it can be brought up to a finer finish and given a bluer color. Salts and additives along with metals dictate some of the color you will achieve.

A gentleman named Danny Robbins has blued a couple of my guns. He does great work and his pricing isn't bad at all. Those in the West Ga area will remember him as the fella who was formerly employed by Gable's and did gunsmith work at his own private shop. Just to clarify, his gunsmithing business was not through Gable's.

I do bluing both cpld and "hot" but I don't feel it is appropriate on a pistol like that... I have seen "blue" cerakote that looks fantastic. send me your cheaper stuff, I am not touching a new DW...
