****Atlanta Falcons**** And The NFL In General

Because he made it. ;)
If he had missed (which 2:1 odds suggest he would). Carolina would have gotten the ball on their 36 with a minute and a half to go, down by 4. Making the field goal changed nothing (Carolina still had to go for a TD), but they did get the touchback so it got them the 16 yard 'flip'. Obviously he made the kick and Newton fumbled so it's all moot but that was an incredibly strange call.

Chances are, even as good as Bosher has been, that punting it would have been a touchback placing them on the 20. I will take the risk of giving them 16 yards in that scenario when it could keep me in the game/OT with them getting a touchdown. The fact that the kick was good does NOT influence my decision.

What bothers me more was how we wound down the first half. Im not asking for hail marys Im just asking to use the timeouts and hope Freeman has a breakout play that could put us in fieldgoal range.

Why risk a turnover or injury when you are gonna get the ball anyway after halftime.
I can see it both ways though.

I turned it on when there was about 2 minutes left. Can someone (anyone) explain the point of going for that (career long) when you are already up by 4 with 1:30 left?
You jus mad cause you know this is comin.....

Actually if he would have missed they would have gotten the ball on the 44 so it makes your point even more. In the NFL the ball is spotted where the ball was kicked from on a missed FG. I was yelling at the TV wondering why you would kick that with a backup kicker as well instead of try to pin them deep. Either way they are going to get the ball back around the 20 and need a TD, so why risk giving the probable MVP a short field?

Good point and I stand corrected. The commentators made a passing comment about "Not sure I agree with this" but when he made it I guess it became a non issue but yeah.... the risk/vs reward simply made zero sense. Had they missed and wound up losing he'd have never been able to justify that call. But, he made it. I hope that kicker got a nice bonus. :)

Also, as much as I want to beat our hated division rivals, I wouldn't have hated a loss to the Panthers and Saints this week in order to move up the draft board. Right now we would pick around #20. A loss yesterday and next week would probably move us up to around #10. Of course if it is Dimitroff making the picks again next year none of it matters because he will pick a bust....

I am all for good talent coming in here...apparently none of the 2010 and 2012 drafts are even with the team. Pick up guys cheap and coach them up like the Pats.

Dimitroff was just that, he came from the Pats and was supposed to bring in the late draft talent and the coaches to coach em up. Unfortunately we see how his eye for talent has worked out for us....It is time for somebody fresh to evaluate talent for the Falcons.
