So far Julio has gotten paid $2 Million per yard. Good deal.
Julio is arguably the best WR in the NFL. He is a true #1. He consistently draws a double team. When Ridley or Sanu or Hooper has a big game, it's in large part due to the attention Julio commands from the defense. The Falcons offense depends on him.
Another aspect of paying a player is to show everyone you're willing to take care of your best guys. You wouldn't want the reputation of being overly cheap and not taking care of core players. Good luck if that stink gets on you.
That said, the Falcons may have built in a timeline of win now with a possible mandatory rebuild 2-3 years down the road. That's the nature of the salary cap. Be thankful we're not cheering for the Dolphins.
