Atlanta NOT chosen by Amazon

As the story goes... Whose story...?

I know and a couple of heavy hitters in GA politics (hard-core republicans). They told me the biggest knock on GA was actually our K-12 rankings and lack of public transit. You either need to live way out in the exurbs for good public schools and deal with a 2+ hours commute or live in the city and send your kids to private school, eliminating the whole lower cost of living bonus of metro-Atlanta.

Not sure why they would care about local schools except colleges. Transit was always going to be a problem for Atlanta though.

Interesting that Crystal City VA is right next to Reagan airport. Hardly a posh address. If they'd chosen ATL we could have parked them by Hartsfield and let them gentrify East Point. :)

Probably just as well though. Atlanta really doesn't need more big companies moving here right now, especially ones that would have cost this much to attract. Amazon has a huge logistics presence in the Atlanta region already, and they have several large distribution hubs across GA, and those were basically free.

Believe it or not Nashville actually is growing like crazy. There are cranes everywhere in that city with new types of jobs. Nashville is the healthcare capital of the United States and that money has bred other industry growth.
True story. Traffic is ridiculous and getting worse by the day.

$150k a year is not enough for a family to hv a house in NY. which average price for a decent 1000sf apartment is $2m. a house in queens is around 700k to 1.2m.

It's probably $150K loaded cost. Which means the jobs aren't paying six figures.
