Prior to the Patriot Act they would have been charged with inciting a riot, criminal property damage, arson etc. But labeling these acts as “domestic terrorism” it changes they way they are prosecuted and normalizes the use of the term to apply to any form of civil disobedience in the future. The Patriot Act also allows the Federal DOJ to get involved in prosecutions that would normally be left to local and state DAs. Instead of say an arson and criminal damage to property case being dealt with locally, the domestic terrorist charge allows the DOJ to steer the direction of the investigation and nullifies or infringes on states rights to prosecution.

Just like adding the “Hate Crime” to murder and assault charges that is often used against whites but very seldom if ever against blacks. The DOJ wants to reduce local and state DA’s influence while creating a bigger web for itself.
