I love that section of 76. Regarding the downhill Union co side, a dump trailer loaded with sand, local I assume, lost brakes right after Neals Gap and went off at they est 70mph. There is sand stuck in trees 100ft in. Looked like a field of sand paper. I assume he was local because you don't haul sand very far. Its pretty crazy that big trucks take that route.

Few years ago a bus from a Florida church went off tesnatee on the Union county side ,
And I think a well drilling truck went off a few years later

I would never take a bus load of people over that road

They went down it too fast and burned up the brakes
Only killed one person , which was amazing

I’ve taken my 18 wheeler over neals Gap
Slow but no problem

Hell , I took my cabover and a 48 foot trailer on on hwy 64 thru the Ocoee gorge . Not a good idea but it’s the only way to get from Cleaveland tn to Blairsville or Murphy
