Barrel Length for a Suppressed AR9

Yeah, you won't see it sitting on the shelves at your local walmart, but the heavies are readily available online, though they carry a premium over more common weights (ie: high volume sellers)

I have a 4". If you've paid the sbr tax and the suppressor tax, I don't see any advantage to going longer than 4" - unless you're using iron sights and want the longest possible sight radius. FWIW it's louder than my p226 with the same suppressor/ammo. Get the heaviest buffer you can find and put an AR10 spring behind it.

The P226 is one of the quietest 9mm host. I love it!

I when running suppressed I Fiocchi exclusively. It seems to be the best. I haven't tried the 147 and 165gr HUSH though.

Not trying to derail the OP's thread, but is there a noticeable difference between 147 grain and 158 grain (out of a 5'' barrel)?

Yes. Fiocchi 158s are nice.

As for the barrel length I'd go 4.5" - 5" if you're going to shoot the lighter weight bullets also. If all subsonic, then just pick a barrel length. The trade-off is that the shorter the barrel, the more gassy it is. And there's not much you can do to limit the gas, other than around the charging handle area.

my 6.5" sbr keeps 147 grain and heavier subsonic.

i ran a box of the fiocchi 158's and they seemed to sound about like everything else subsonic. i wouldn't necessarily seek those out or pay a premium for them.

the american eagle 147s are cheap and available or at least they were when i last made my bulk purchase. they work well.

Gone with a Ballistic Advantage 5.5" barrel on the one I'm building!
