Beating a dead horse..... scope options

got a .308 AR again and can't decide on a scope. $500 budget. Never really shoot long range. Maybe 250 yards. Just a fun range gun. I want something 3-15 or 4-16. Something around there. I was thinking about the 4.5-14x40 Leupold VX3i.

Opinions??

4.5-14x40 Leupold VX3 is a great choice !

I found an apparent unicorn online and ordered it. It's a VX3i 4.5-14 with 30mm tube non CDS with a side focus. Exactly what I wanted.
I have a VX3i on my Tikka .260 and love it.

That looks like a really nice scope. I like my Leupolds, but all of mine are older, before the CDS system. So, why not get the CDS?

I doubt I'll have this rifle forever so I would have to get it changed for a different rifle/caliber. Plus, I rarely(maybe once ever 2 years) shoot it far enough to even mess with changing the turret. I like to set it and forget it.

I saw that. That's the older model. I found the new one online for about 20 bucks more and ordered it. Thanks though!

Just get the firedot if you go the leupold way.
You wont regret it
