I find brookies to be very opportunistic. You only get one or two chances at a small hole. Small spinners, or any natural bate. Ants, crickets...

Live crickets. My favorite spinner for all trout is the 1/8 oz. Rooster Tail...so many different colors work and the 1/8 oz. throws well.

Me and a buddy at the Hooch, I use a brown rooster tail or the pictured above grasshopper, weight depends on the size of the river/stream. Good luck!

i get salamanders from under the moss on the sides of the banks, those work the best.

That is correct on both counts. They are awesome. Just got back from 3 days in mountains and caught 82 trout all together, mostly catch and release. 95% of those were caught on trout magnets, including several 16-18 inch brook trout. Last time I was up there I managed 60 on a trout magnet on the day they stocked, including one about 3.5 lbs.
