Best Bourbon that doesn't break the bank?

I don't doubt it. Wellers isn't better tasting. It's a better value. Apparently you don't understand what I'm saying. That's OK. I get that you really like 4 roses SB. I've purchased it, received it as a gift as well. It was served at my best friends wedding, and I consumed a lot of it. I won't be buying it again unless it becomes less expensive. If I'm going to buy a treat it won't be 4 roses SB.

Best one I've had lately is Palmetto Whiskey. Haven't found it in GA, but you can get it in SC. I paid 27.99 a bottle, and it is every bit as good as Basil Hayden and the rest.

I've got 2 bottles left from my last trip to Beaufort SC. I'll pick up some more next month. It really is that good.

Salty like Basil Hayden's, not sweet and vanilla(ey)?

Jack Daniels makes some good whiskey, but it's not bourbon. True bourbon has to be distilled from mash that is at least 50% corn and comes from Kentucky. JD is from Tennessee. Bourbon is actually the official spirit of the USA, because it is the only liquor that is (or at least was) distilled only in the USA. The reason Kentucky makes the best bourbon, is that the water that goes into the mash comes from a specific aquifer that contains a lot of limestone. More recently, companies outside of Kentucky have begun using other limestone aquifers or adding limestone to the water they use to create non-Kentucky "bourbons." In my mind, true bourbon, still means Kentucky bourbon. To the OP, my favorite is Bookers, it's a bit pricey at about $65 a bottle, but it is also cask strength (110 proof, as opposed to about 80 proof for most bourbons). Despite packing more of a punch, it is still incredibly smooth. It has a great warmth without the burn of a lot of other bourbons.

The Red letters are not correct.

Historically there was much good bourbon that came from Indiana and Virginia. Ky. just had better publicity through the years.

Jack Daniels and other TN whiskey are technically "bourbons" but for marketing reasons chose to be called "Tennessee Whiskey".

There is something about that whiskey I just don't like with the flavor. Some may, but I think it's overrated.

Definitely not sweet and vanilla(ey). Not sure I detect a salty taste. Got to admit though, I've never been good at describing tastes, especially with wines and whiskeys. I just know I like it!
Yeah, sounds interesting. Basil Haydens is definitely salty.

These two are about as different as apples and landmines (one's an Islay, and the other a Speyside), but excellent in their own right. The Lagavulin 16 is one of the finest Scotch's money can buy imo.

They both "break the bank" though, lol.
