Best Bourbon that doesn't break the bank?

Not too impressed with the 2019 Michter’s 10yr Single Barrel... even with the Vinturi Spirit.

Thank God I got it for retail!

Did you know that these two brands release different versions each year?

Stagg Jr releases twice while Elijah Craig Barrel Proof releases 3 times per year.

Each bottle release has a very unique flavor/heat profile. If you snag a bottle and decide you want the exact same one 6 months down the road... that might be very difficult to replace!

While Stagg Jr is harder to secure, between these two batches, the Elijah Craig A120 is far superior in overall flavor, viscosity, and value.

Always preferred the Elijah for those exact same reasons.

OK, it is Thursday and I have some time. I spoke, recently, about an "Infinity Bottle". Where the last little bit of bourbon in a bottle could be poured into the "Infinity Bottle" and mixed with all the other bourbons you pour. Kind of like making your very own small batch. My infinity bottle has Basil Hayden, Old Bardstown, Four Roses Yellow Label, Elijah Craig, Belle Meade, Bakers 101, and just for the heck of it, a non bourbon, some Gentleman Jack. I am not going to start drinking on the mix until after it is nearly full. The product may taste like swill, or it could be pretty good. I know I like all the bourbons I have poured in there so far. Once the bottle is nearly full, I will try it and let everyone know the results. Oh, I don't know how much of each bourbon is in there, it is just whatever little bit is left in a bottle. It did help me to get rid of some bottles and make some room in my likka cabinet. I will report on the taste when I try it.
Last year I saw on a bourbon forum a post about mixing Old Grandad 114 and Weller green label to get a drink close to what Pappy taste like. Now I have never drank any Pappy but I did try this and will tell you it evens out both and makes a really smooth tasting bourbon drink. Good luck with your experiment.

Well, I am back to report on my "Infinity Bottle". I will name the ingredients, but there are no specific amounts that were poured in the bottle, just the little that was left. My "Infinity Bottle" has Basil Hayden, Elijah Craig, Bakers 101, Old Bardstown, Four Roses Single Barrel, Four Rose standard bottle, Woodford Reserve, Woodford Reserve Double Oak, and a very little Gentleman Jack. I believe that to be all of the ingredients. But, I may have missed one, maybe two others.

So, last night I sat down and decided to try my rather crude attempt at a small batch bourbon. I don't drink bourbon neat, never have. I enjoy my bourbon with a little ice. With that in mind, I had a drink. I was surprised at how smooth it was. Despite having some Baker's 101 in it, no huge alcohol burn. I will admit the taste was a very mixed bag of flavors, but the finish was good and reminded me of Woodford Reserve. It is what I would call a mid-shelf bourbon, but what could I expect from a mixed bag of bourbons from different companies and different tastes. I ended up having a second drink, just because I wanted to experience the flavor again. All I can say about the "Infinity Bottle" is that, heck I would buy this.....oh right, I already have! lol

I'm partial to Buffalo Trace and ASW products. Stagg Jr is my favorite, and luckily I located a few bottles of batch 13 for MSRP (some stores charge exorbitant mark ups).

My small Buffalo Trace collection (with the exception of Stagg Jr, all under $40):

Oops, almost forgot another from Buffalo Trace:

ASW's Fiddler Georgia Heartwood is supreme (and local). This is my favorite ASW offering I've tried, but also difficult to find. Fiddler Soloist is fairly easy to obtain, affordable, and (most importantly) really good bourbon. Always good to support local business.

been trying to find a decent price on the staff jr for awhile. seems like everywhere i go wants 100+ for it.
It's tough to find. I live in the Athens area, and the prices here for allocated products seem higher than the metro Atlanta market. One store was asking $170 for a bottle of Stagg Jr batch 10!! I found mine at a package store just outside Loganville for $55. Locally I can't find EH Taylor Small Batch for less than $60, but many of the metro Atlanta stores sell it for $39.

Total Wine in Alpharetta has great prices (Stagg Jr. for $49), but many folks wait in line on Thursday mornings to buy the allocated stuff ( so it's gone before the weekend).
