Best Bourbon that doesn't break the bank?

It's tough to find. I live in the Athens area, and the prices here for allocated products seem higher than the metro Atlanta market. One store was asking $170 for a bottle of Stagg Jr batch 10!! I found mine at a package store just outside Loganville for $55. Locally I can't find EH Taylor Small Batch for less than $60, but many of the metro Atlanta stores sell it for $39.

Total Wine in Alpharetta has great prices (Stagg Jr. for $49), but many folks wait in line on Thursday mornings to buy the allocated stuff ( so it's gone before the weekend).

yah im on the same side of town and have seen the same thing. occational turtle creek will get some and no go crazy but will still be marked up. I have one ghetto store in winder that very rarely gets anything but when they do its only ever msrp so i just always hope they end up with something.

I'm partial to Buffalo Trace and ASW products. Stagg Jr is my favorite, and luckily I located a few bottles of batch 13 for MSRP (some stores charge exorbitant mark ups).

My small Buffalo Trace collection (with the exception of Stagg Jr, all under $40):

Oops, almost forgot another from Buffalo Trace:

ASW's Fiddler Georgia Heartwood is supreme (and local). This is my favorite ASW offering I've tried, but also difficult to find. Fiddler Soloist is fairly easy to obtain, affordable, and (most importantly) really good bourbon. Always good to support local business.

Big fan of Buffalo Trace as well, the only problem is I can't find it anywhere here in Dallas, Tx. Grabbed some Old Forester and Woodford Reserve to hold me over until I'm home for good.

I visited a friend of mine recently and tried a new to me bourbon. It is Wilderness Trail, 100 proof, straight bourbon.

My friend loves the stuff, but while it is a good solid bourbon, I found the taste and finish a bit...uh....different. Not bad mind you, but frankly, I did not particularly like it. I am positive it would be a great bourbon to make cocktails. However, any bourbon I use to make cocktails should not cost close to $50. Not saying I would never drink it, but it is way behind bourbons of the same price. Just my opinion, and what do I know?
