Best hardtail Mountain bike for $500-1000?

I'm a huge Craigslist fan when it comes to bicycles. You can also check prices on https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/. With your budget you can get a really nice used bike. Folks with money by nice bikes and then hang them on the wall for a year after they ride them one or two times lol.

That being said I am a Trek fan but that's probably because it's what I ride. I'm sure my brother-in-law would tell you Specialized for the same reason.

Locking front forks and disc brakes are a must in my opinion.

Yeah I would really like hydraulic brakes too. I need to get on Craigslist forsure.

Too bad you don't want a 29'er. I use to ride before I got into guns and the 29'er was still kinda new to the market. Once I got one I never rode anything but. A good set of light weight wheels and tubeless tires and I could climb hills like a goat. Best of luck!

I can't keep a 29er wheel trued I am rough on rear wheels. 27.5 is the tallest wheel I can ride and keep from bending.
