Black Hawk Down

My mum friend dates one of those guys that was there

My first military squad leader was there as a Sniper, I posted about him before on ODT, big Red-Headed Scot, he had(1) confirmed and 2 possible kills on that day. Nicest guy in the world but a BEAST in a fight!!! When, I saw him 9yrs after the fight, he never spoke about it, we are still in contact!!!

I recall being very upset and mad at the end. I can't remember what happened but I do remember thinking they were a bunch of savages that shouldn't be breathing. I saw We Were Soldiers the other day, I really like that movie.

At the end of the battle, as depicted in the movie, quite a large group of Rangers and Delta operators were left to run out of the city because there wasn't enough room for all of them in the relief vehicles. That was something of an outrage. Google "Mogadishu Mile"

Audie,Murphy. ...To Hell and back. WW2....movie star played himself and 7 years after the war he looked too young to serve. I meet a Medial of Honor Paratrooper WW2. Knew him for years before a friend told me about his Medial.

I asked him about his meeting Audie. He said they were on the same war bond train crossing the country. He said after a bunch of guys jumped of the train to go home they were chained at ankles.

He said the MP'S would wait at their families and take them back.

He said he jumped the train 3 times then the brass had the chains put on.

Look Magazine took pictures of them from the waste up.

He loved flying his remote control aircraft.
He said he and friend would go to Dobbins and fly. I now know why he had access to go on base.

Zulu, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Blackhawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, American Sniper and 13 Hours are my favorite combat movies.

Two poignant scenes from these movies. The realization of the effects of PTSD by Chris Kyle in American Sniper and the observation that warriors aren't trained to retire in 13 Hours.

There are other great movies, but these come to mind.
