Besides Dan Wesson, who makes a bobtail 1911 in 9mm. Commander size. I think the Dan wesson guardian is probably my best bet but seeing what other options are out there. Let's keep it under $1,300 if possible.

You will be hard pressed to find a better 1911 than DW at that price point. Dan Wesson is that 1911 that sits between the mid level 1911's (SA's upper models, Sig, Kimber) and the upper level (LB, WC, NH, EB). They offer a lot of pistol for the money and the quality is just short of the upper levels pistols costing double or triple. I've owned them all and Dan Wesson is a really a lot of 1911 for the money.
I like that. And I thought of just buying a standard commander and getting the bobtail work done. I think as much as that costs, I could have just bought the DW
You cannot beat a DW for the money. By far my favorite pistol I have ever shot.
The DW Guardian 9's are very nice and feel great in the hand. Soft shooting and hold 10 rounds. Mine just doesn't like Speer 147gn subs is about the only thing bad I can say about them.
Won't feed from loaded mag when hand cycling.
