Bought a CMP Special--need advice on upkeep

Bought this beauty on the weekend. I was told this stock is raw wood, so there's nothing on it to provide protection from the elements. I'd like to keep this thing for as long as I'm alive, so any advice on how to protect the wood would be very welcome. I've been told to look for boiled linseed oil and rub that on, but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to anything wood related.

Yep I agree BLO is what I use and just follow the advice from the CMP article and you will be good to go.

This is the original finish on the Garand. It is much more impervious to water than BLO.

The link above is the only place still selling it. It really makes for a good looking stock finish that won't turn dark like BLO

Linseed oil will work fine, lots of light coats, steel wool in between. Tung oil is about the same type of finish...same thing lots of light coats, rub it on, wipe it off let it dry. After you get the finish you want, wax it with some bee's wax furniture polish.
