Hey guys I have long wanted a wood stove in my living room but truthfully my living room is long and narrow so there is no good place to put one without it sticking too far out. I looked into getting a fireplace/wood stove insert put in and it is way more expensive than I expected. So I am back to the idea of a small wood stove with hearth. My question is how can I cheat as much space from the stove to hearth as possible? I have read a lot about ceramic spacers between wall and durock board and 28 gauge sheet metal. I am handy enough to build it I just wonder if anyone knows how much space I can squeeze with which method, etc?? I am thinking pipe through the wall and 90 degrees up and above the roof. Then I will be able to mount tv on wall over stove. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look here at https://www.diychatroom.com/ enter 'wood stove installation" in the search block and you will get about 23 hits to browse through.

I assume you are talking about wall clearance.. In my case I used metal 2 x 4's vertically screwed to the sheetrock wall (studs) behind the stove, that gives you 3-1/2 distance between sheetrock and heat shield. I shortened the metal 2 X 4's to allow 3 inch gap top and bottom from my 4 inch the floor hearth. Then installed cement board screwed to the metal studs , keeping about a 3 inch air gap at the bottom and top allows air flow behind the fireproof shield. Then installed fire proof tiles on the cement board. Since the metal 2 x 4's are not as rigid as wood you will get some wiggle horizontally so installing a couple of horizontal pieces between the verticals will help stabilize the wall. My chimney was vertical single wall into double wall through ceiling, attic and roof out. So I can't help on your wall chimney setup. Make sure your floor hearth melds with wall hearth 3 inch air gap, depending on height of the floor setup.

Not sure if I would mount a TV over a wood stove, lots of heat goes straight up...fireplace is a different story..

However I strongly suggest you read up and follow local codes as they may vary.
