Read the affidavit for arrest https://media.bizj.us/view/img/11189851/roberts.pdf It is very interesting.Says the lines were cut. Does the power line neutralize the cellular backup (in case phone lines are cut) or did they just not have one?

A couple things:
1. the car was a rental. The rental car was equipped with a GPS tracking system. The historical record of the GPS showed the vehicle at or near each of the thefts.
2. The MO of the breakins was to completely remove the entire electrical meter prior to entering. They would entirely remove the audible alarm and activate the door alarm and observe for at least a half hour before entering. After entry disable the surveillance.
3. The owner of one of the shops broken into, also owned the house next door. That house next door had motion activated surveillance that was transmitted to the owner.
That additional surveillance led to the vehicle which led to the investigation and arrest.
The issues are: Need for independently powered surveillance and notification. Particularly from adjacent structures (the top of light pole?) viewing the facility. Notification of power outages, and the need for long term alternate power for surveillance, alarm, notification and surveillance
If a person sets up such a trap to protect his/her property, he/she will be liable for any injury or death even to an unwanted intruder such as a burglar. It is illegal to set a booby trap on one's own property to prevent intruders.Add:
1. Booby trap connected to power meter..
so tax evasion also? Or a new cash opportunity?Nearly 300 firearms stolen. Let's say an average of $500 each. That is about 150K in stolen property.

A better idea is a couple pinhole cameras and motion detectors set to transmit video when activated.
