Cades Cove Timber Rattler

My wife and I took a drive today up to the mountains, taking the Cherola Skyway, cutting back west on the Tail of the Dragon, took the Foothills Parkway north to Townsend, and into Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountain National Park.

We struck out on spotting any bears this time, but we did manage to spot a Timber Rattler, which I have not seen in probably 20 years. It was actually on the alternate exit out of Cades Cove (Rich Mountain Rd).

It did not like being disturbed

I almost stepped on one in one of the fields there about ten years ago was very close. My wife and I the same trip saw a nice copper head on that same cut through. I don’t like snakes

Y’all probably been closer than you think if you hunt in the south. I’ve had the unfortunate experience to cross paths with 7 or 8 over the years. All but the one at cades cove went on to snake heaven

Back in 83 my buddy grabbed my arm to stop me from stepping on a great big one On the rattlesnake den mountain trail a few miles East of Cade’s cove. It was sunbathing, stretched out across the trail like a log.
