My neighbor in PA bought a revolver chambered in.454 Casull specifically for a black bear hunt and let me shoot it at the range we were members of.

I guess that would stop a black bear but I wouldn't spend a grand on a gun that I might use. How many black bear attacks have been recorded in GA?

Get you a Freedom Arms 83 in .454 Casull. Problem solved.

As @YUK0N said a Glock 20 or 40. There are few issues of aggression in Georgia that 15 rounds of full charge 10mm won't resolve.
It is highly unlikely that the sound you heard was a mountain lion, much more likely a bobcat.

I figured it was a bobcat as well since lions rare here but it sounded exactly like this..

When I hunt in the Rockies, after having friends trailed by both bears and mountain lions, I carry a .460 S&W in a guide rig (center of chest, front). It's easy to get to, regardless of how many layers I have on. I like the .460 because it's a beast of a round, and the pistol will also shoot the lesser .45LC or .454 Casull.

I had a .460 and it defiantly has my vote. The versatility is a whole lot better than the .500. The .500 is just for people who want the “biggest” anyway

10mm for actual protection. if your just trying to run it off a full auto paintball gun with marbles or frozen paintballs has been enough to make any curious animal around my house significantly less curious
