Can anybody recommend some good hearing protection?

I never used the electronic earmuffs before about 2 months ago. My son gave me a pair of "walmart specials" that he paid $20 for, I think they have the name Winchester on them. I liked them so much that I decided to buy myself another pair of muffs, so I ordered a set from Midway that cost about $40. The 20 dollar walmart muffs are better than the ones I paid twice as much for. I would go over to Wally World amd spend $19.95 for theirs!

I'm in the market for some and have settled on Peltor Sport Tack. Comp Tach have more features but the same performance. These seem to be the most recommended from competition shooting.

I guess I'm the only one that prefers $2 triple-flange earplugs.

Be careful of using only plugs on a regular basis especially with rifle or indoor handgun. Hearing damage will occur from inaudible sound waves transmitted through the bones around your outer ear. Over the ear muffs protect this area. Just looking out for you. I did that for a long time.

The protection I referenced came in today. They are pretty cool. You can amplify sounds, almost like a hearing aid. I turned them up all the way and could hear my daughter having a conversation on the neighbors porch across the street and a boy playing on a pogo stick 5 houses away. All this is useless and maybe dangerous if they don't cancel out gunfire. I'm probably going shooting tomorrow, and will report how well they function at the range.
