Can I put a sight on a cut barrel?

Looking at a snubby cut revolver with no front sight. Is it worth it to get a front sight put on by a Smith or can I do it myself? This is for a beater truck tackle box gun.

Making sure the barrel was crowned in a functional manner would be of more Importance to me. If you ever have to use it you may never even look at the front sight. For a truck gun I would probably epoxy on a highly visible one of some sort.
