CHF 16" barrel $100 @PSA

Nothing wrong with it exactly, just a little over gassed, meaning you are supposed to run heavy buffers. Carbine gas systems were developed for barrels under 16" such as on the military M4's. Since us peons have to stay 16 or longer the mid length was developed by civilian manufacturers to come up with the correct gas port location for 16" barrels. If you look at the distance from the gas port to the muzzle on a mid length vs a 20" M16, it's the same distance, meaning about the same force is exerted onto the bolt. Carbine gas system on a 16" barrel delivers too much gas pressure to the bolt.

Carbine length AR15's are made all the time and often run great, I just don't like them, but that's just my opinion.

Very well said. Thank you.

Wasn't sure. I thought at one time all CHF PSA barrels were produced by FN?
Nope. And that's how they like people to think.

Unless it's described specifically as "made by FN" and "machine gun steel", I consider it one of their mid-tier barrels.

Better than Freedom, but not top of the line.

I gotcha. Good to know. You're right, it's hard to find the correct information online sometimes. The link I posted was the most recent that I could find...

Right on, mid-length is better, less violent on the action, slightly less recoil, widely considered superior overall for 16" barrels.
