I am from IL, 1947 to 1988, mostly downstate but lived in the suburb of Schaumburg for a year 1971-72, and after that spent a lot of time working up there from 1974-88.
It was bad then, and has only gotten worse.....even going back to the Capone days. Chicago hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1938.....Big Bill Thompson, and he was a crook too.
