Ok..... I have gotten range time with two of my potential CCW/HD firearms tonight. The Glock 19 (gen 4 range rental with factory sights) and a CZ-P07 Duty (belonged to one of the employees at the range, Stoddard's, and had suppressor height sights and threaded barrel). I shot the Glock first, and I'm no fan of glock stock sights (try saying that 5 times fast), so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I liked the feel in my hands, and the grip angle was foreign to me, but not bad by any means. I don't know if it's just me but I had some trigger slap, and my middle finger was stinging after 25 rounds. It's probably how I gripped it (cue the "you're doing it wrong" posts), but I like a really high grip, and think that's why my middle finger, between my first and second knuckle, is still kinda sore.
On to accuracy.... I fired 25 rounds of range reloads (115 grn FMJ) in 5 round groups at 15 feet. My first 15 were all over the place, but I was getting a feel for it. My best group wasn't too bad for me compared to other 9's I've shot in the past, only slightly worse than my personal best, the M&P fullsize. I'll post pics of the groups from my phone in the next few posts.
On to the CZ. The sights took me a second to get accustomed to, with the added height and all. I've shot suppressor height sights before on a HK USP40 tactical I used to own (Miss that GUN!!), but I was never too great with em. The CZ felt nice, familiar even. It just felt more at home in my hands. After shooting another 25, I felt like I could shoot it all day long with no issue, and very little fatigue.
So I figure another 15, and I should have a hang of it and make a group. Surprise! First 5 rounds were a better group than the best I could manage with the Glock! I decided to see just how tight I could group, and the next 5 printed a 1 inch group, one ragged hole! I'm not going to claim to be a pistol marksman by any stretch of the imagination. I still shot a little left, but we can assume that may have something to do with the sights. Then I loaded up the rest of the 15, and shot two more groups, still just as tight. The last 5 I had some fun and fired as fast is I could get back on target with, and it of course opened up, but still just as tight if not better than my best slow shooting group with the Glock.
So I'm sold! I will be getting a CZ next weekend, so now I need some CZ advice from the good folks here on ODT that have experience with CZ's and help me narrow down model numbers....
Ok. I LOVE the p07! So I think I'll stick with that general size for now. So I'm looking at the p07 (of course), and the p01. My main determining factor is mag availability (pretty much the same between them all for me) and IWB holster options. I know that the weight difference is there. and the p07 factory mags have a higher capacity and fit flush. The awesome guys at Stoddard's let me try a standard 75 mag in the p07, and it stuck out a bit, but locked up, and held the slide back no problem. So I could buy those a bit cheaper and keep em as range mags. They also dug into IWB holsters, seeing what could fit it. They didn't have any designed for the p07 (seems to be a recurring issue) but they did find me some options. HK holster seem to work well, and a Bianchi IWB leather for a XDm fit pretty nice too, the barrel poked out the other side (extended barrel... pretty much expect that with any holster), but it was snug, with a very small amount of wiggle. But I figure that will tighten up a bit when worn. The price on the p07 was very attractive, leaving me enough left over for a few extra mags and holster. The p01 was super nice too, and all steel, which I like (being a 1911 fan). It costs a good bit more, leaving me with almost nothing left over for a immediate holster or extra mag purchase, but I know resale (which I would probably never sell it, but....) will be better for a p01. But in all honesty, the holster options will probably be the same for it too.
Calling all CZ guys! Help me decide what my first CZ will be!
