Choosing my next firearm UPDATE! Range report and pics! (Spoiler alert, CZ FTW!)

Just 15 feet, thought it was in the original post... But just a quick and dirty test at possible indoor (in my house) range

Forgot to add in the original post, one of the other deciding factors for me, was the fact that I know I could get good with the glock, but it would cost me more to get it where I wanted it to be, where as the CZ hits all the notes out of the box. I will be getting the nite sites on whichever CZ I get regardless. And I know you can get glock nite sights on the cheap as well, but I would want an extended slide release, better stippling, no finger grooves, undercut the trigger guard, and so on and so forth. Don't get me wrong, I will probably get a glock eventually as well, an older gen 3 I wouldn't feel bad hacking on to get it where I want it. Or maybe even a 17 gen 3 and do a 19 frame chop. But right now, for new in the box, I want a CZ. Just feels better to me, and I'm honestly a better shot with it straight off, and its more fun for me to shoot it. Therefore I will shoot it more, and get better with it.

SP-01 or if you can splurge, CZ Shadow (SP-01 from CZ Custom shop stock without firing pin block, trigger work, hammer, etc).

Or if you really want to splurge, Accu-shadow (Shadow with bushing and guide rod plug for sub 2.5 inch groups at 50 yards).

Here is mine specced out with a 4.925 inch barrel to stand out from the bunch, full ambi controls, trits, and OD g10 VZ grips.

If you think the P-07/P-09 are good, the SP-01 and up are even better. I say that because the P-07 and P-09 use the CZ Omega trigger which was just made to be easier to work on because the whole thing comes out as a unit. On the other hand, I don't know of any reputable gunsmith that does trigger work on Omega triggers. There is nothing wrong with the Omega trigger, but most CZ guys that have used them still prefer the standard triggers. With the Omega trigger you get a parts kit to convert the gun from safety to decocker and vice versa. That is the only benefit. Before you jump the gun (pun not intended) and get a P-07 or P-09 (full size frame version of the P-07), handle the SP-01 and take note of the trigger. The SP-01, 75, and 85 (non-Omega versions) have much better feeling triggers.

Notice the reset point of the trigger; it is exactly where the trigger is in the picture. Pull it 1/16 of an inch at 3.5 pounds, and it goes bang. It has the short reset trigger which used to be an add on. Now all Shadows from the CZ Custom shop come with short reset triggers. These triggers make 1911 guys envious. There is no short reset disconnector available for Omega triggers.

Holy crap! That thing is beautiful! I originally wanted an SP-01, but was going to stay with a compact to start out. Starting to think I'll get a steel framed, non omega trigger CZ to start with, then wait until the next gen P-07 comes out with the "melted" slide like the P-09 for a CCW. But I still like the size of the P-01. They have a SP-01 at the range I can try out, but I have a feeling as soon as I do, I'll be hooked really deep, and start spending too much. I found out I'm going to be a dad, so I gotta ball on a budget for now. The omega trigger doesn't really matter to me as far as swapping out safety for decocker, I prefer cocked and locked anyway. Wish they would come out with a P-07 without it, but the price point is hard to beat, leaving me extra to get a really nice holster and a extra mag or three. One day I WILL have something as badass as yours though. Thanks for the info too! I will probably be trying to pick your brain as I fall further into CZ addiction.

If you want a heirloom type big heavy steel range and home defense gun that you will probably hand down to your kid get the SP-01. If you want a carry gun that you can use for range and home defense get the PO-7. The Omega trigger system gives you choices. If you test CZ triggers you will notice a definite difference in DA pull between the decocker and manual safety variants. The decocker adds an extra moving part to the trigger mechanism producing that much more of a already not so good DA pull. The manual safety triggers feels far better to me(subjective) and breaks in nicer. The benefit to the decocker is more options for carry since you can decock down to a half cock hammer setting instead of a cocked and locked or DA condition which(which is a personal preference). It sounds like for your budget and purpose of use the PO-7 fits the bill nicely. To me the Omega trigger system provides good choices and a smoother DA pull with both the Decocker and manual safety options. If I ever get work done on any of my CZ's they will go to the CZ custom shop. Two reasons, they work on nothing but CZ (CZ's tend to give some gun smiths a hard time), you have paper work to prove you had the smithing done by a certified reputable CZ gun shop and this will ultimately lend to the value of the firearm if you ever try to resell it. And yes I have both guns and love them both.

SP-01s aren't too bad if you shop around. They shouldn't be that much more than a P-07.

Mine is an Accu-shadow. ;) If you have any questions about CZ stuff, lemme know.

Por que no los dos? Found an ad for a sp-01, and I'm after it. If I can trade for it, then I can buy the P-07 for carry, and keep the sp-01 at home with a tlr-1 on it for permanent HD duty. Fingers crossed!!
