I wonder what the legalities of that are? I'd do the same thing and trust the system to not fry me but you never know.

I do wonder though if you wouldn't get shot for your troubles. Cop's taking a beating, all of a sudden gunfire erupts; do you know that you're being rescued or under further attack? Do you have the situation awareness and self control to determine that? Stepping in to help is risky. Either way, glad it all turned out well.

I never thought about that scenario. I guess its good to announce yourself as you step up to bat?

Yup...I constantly wonder about the reality of a self defense shooting. Given that something like this will not happen in a vacuum, what is the likelihood that someone else perceives me as the threat and draws on me? De-escalate and avoid, yo.

I guess that would just be the dice you roll if you ever find yourself in that situation. I pray I never do.
