While walking my dog (male blue pit) with my wife, we heard some dogs barking and looked up to see 6-7 dogs (2 great danes, 2 pit mixes) running full bore down on us. My dog was on a leash (always is when out of the fence), I put my hand on my carry weapon (XD40) but waited to let the situation develop, the first dog (great dane) growled and tied up with mine, with the rest running around us and barking/growling. My wife backed away from me and our dog against a tree and held up the walking stick she carries for snakes, etc. The owners ran out and got their dogs, nobody was bit or hurt, but I told them later that I was completely within my right to have shot the dogs, but did'nt. However, thinking back and adding that if my grandkids had been with us (3 1/2 year old twins, boy & girl) I think I would have had to shoot before they crossed the road. The kids would have been scared, maybe ran and probably been bit or worse. Point of this rant....always be prepared and think ahead!

Glad you and your wife and "furry kid" weren't hurt. I believe in always being prepared. I usually have my baton and EDC knife but only because I'm still waiting to get my EDC pistol setup. (i.e. I'm picking up a G27 Friday)

My daughter always carrys a substantial walking stick when taking our dog on a walk... she had that happen in our neighborhood as well. Really pissed me off!

#1 Glad no one injured, of course by one of the other threads on here today, you might have Recurring Nightmares and be scared for life, (maybe a Lawsuit? Just kidding) #2 So what did the Attacking Dogs Owners have to Say? #3 How and why were their dogs not Contained or Restrained? #4 What also did the other owners have to say about your Right to shoot their dogs, just curious.

I often run without my gun (hate the extra weight) and have often thought about running with a knife or even cell phone for such an emergency. I think after your incident I may have to revisit the idea. glad all went well for you though.
