Crappiest season ever.
Super busy with foster kids, poachers and neighboring corn baiters drove all the deer to the Cheater piles of corn they call hunting these days and to top it off Wife got diagnosed with some really bad cancer.
Got one doe.
I’ll call this my SHTF season.
Prayers for your wife and family all other is secondary

Started hunting in 10 acre backyard in Bartow last season. Saw a lot more deer than last season including a good looking 8 tending a doe.

Only have one doe in freezer. Out of desperation, sat 'til last minute of legal light and didn't see any deer...
On the way out thinking I went the whole season without getting blown at, bumped into 4 does and one of'em blew at me. She made my season complete, 😓~

Prayers of strength from my family to yours, Comanche Comanche .

Huge thank you for fostering! My brother and I were in separate foster homes from nearly birth until we were adopted. Anyone or any family opening their home to fostering deserves big kudos.

Sadly wait until CWD is present eithin our state here in Georgia. Then MAYBE the bait stations will go away. Of course by then REACTING is always worse than PREVENTING so all hunters will pay the price. But the lazy will continue to bait and shoot over bait because they are lazy and unskilled until CWD is here. There is zero skill in hiding above a pile of corn and shooting an animal that because of human intervention has become conditioned and I've always laughed thinking of how they mount their bucks - with corn falling out of its mouth? LOL

I need some wine and cheese with my coffee after reading that. CWD caused and spread by feeding deer? Does Georgia need to eradicate all the persimmon trees, oak trees, muscadines and all the other feed sources for the deer including farming? We don't need more government intervention to make and save the deer. It would turn out the same as the mandate for the covid-19 vaccine did.

Yes I thought it was common knowledge and common sense that when bait stations are used the transmission of disease within same species and between different species is increased. Bait stations are different that fields of soy, clover, or rye, and of course apple trees, etc. We're talking about the piles of corn that deer, turkey, racoons and squirrels feed on. As mentioned in first post.

LOADS of information available supporting how a feed trough / bait station where one species or in the case of corn many species gather to eat share saliva, feces, etc.. Removing the piles of corn does slow the spread of CWD which is what man can do. We cannot play God with Mother Nature (hence why we shouldn't put piles of corn out to begin with) but we can not increase the spread by creating a community feed bank where transmission increases X-fold. In other words kearn how to hunt and remove the bait stations.

The list of resources is nearly endless. These are only a few. Enjoy your wine and cheese.

I grabbed a bunch of persimmon cuttings from my neighbors trees for propagating.
With his permission of course.

I have about 100 cuttings bagged and ready to start planting in the spring in different locations.
I really hope to have a couple nice orchards growing where I’ll also plant some late season small food plots.
This is my alternative solution to bring deer away from neighboring corn feeders.

I also am going to plant a few rows of fast growing Leland pines for some strategic funneling and property border privacy.
