What does fitment depend on--- triangular end cap and correct barrel diameter. Is that all? I guess the length is the same?

almost certainly. the handguard cap on rifle length uppers and most midlength uppers is the triangle type (same as your triangle hg). Worst case, you swap out the handguard retainer for the correct one, which is a $4 part.

I know they sold out but for future reference. If it's a heavy barrel you'll have to do some fitting but they should work. I have two uppers for my M16 clone and both are heavy barrel uppers (they are not these Colt uppers). I bought some surplus triangle hand guards for one of them and had to do some "fitting" to the front of them. Took about 30 minutes with a round file slowly removing a little at a time. My point is even with heavy barrels they can be fit and will work. The hand guard retainer was already a triangle shaped retainer also and the original round hand guards were setup to fit either round or triangular retainers.
