Everytime I drive through Columbus for work I say " I should drive down on my off day to check out the Infantry Museum & the surplus shops. "

a lot of times the “handling marks” are where they are tested at the factory. apparently there is some sort of device that ensures they are dimensionally correct which leaves the scrape marks on brand new usgi mags.
