That's what I was thinking I'd be saying next year when I'm getting *****ed at to stain the fence. How often do you have to stain your deck and how much does it cost if you do it yourself or have someone do it?

It "should" be done every two years. At least the larger level that isn't under roof. Paid to have it done once. Used a kid starting out. He made a complete mess. Established companies wanted a small fortune. I do it myself but not nearly frequently enough. Right now its at least 2 years overdue and looks horrible. I love my deck but HATE the maintenance. You mentioned not living there forever. As a buyer, I'd definitely pay more for less maintenance.

Cypress doesnt need to be stained?

You can stain it, but like cedar, will weather and develop an aged look on its own.
