It's not just Democrats from Uranus who want to place a training requirement into the process for getting a GWCL. It is your fellow Republican, Independant and Democrat gun owners right here on ODT. There are many who have already said this would be a good idea. It's a reasonable restriction............right?

and lets let people drive without taking a driving test, most people that dont think they need the class are the ones that need to go, just because you have had a gun for 50 years does not mean you are safe.

Have you been on I-75 or 285 lately? Those people were "trained" by the government to drive and they can't do it worth a damn for the most part. My dad was trained by the Army to handle and shoot firearms but I'll be damned if I'm ever taking him to the range again. "Training" does not equate to competence. Requiring training to exercise a right? Ridiculous and absurd.

I think that if enough people think that training should be mandated, there is a place for it... High School. I don't care if the kids actually handle a gun, but some exposure to the the 4 gun safety rules for everyone would be great. Just add 4 questions to a high school exit exam. Making rules about training for a CCW permit does nothing for the tons of people that handle guns and don't have a permit. It's a slow process to educate gun owners this way, but I think it works in the long run without infringing on any rights.
