I hope you and your buds learn from this experience. Not just the safety, but also the common sense that goes with it. As far as his writing abilities go, he is still in school.
 
Maybe mom asked the officer to take them all.

Which would probably be a good thing since it's obvious that someone was lacking in general gun safety.
Rule #1 muzzle control.
Rule #2 muzzle control.
Rule #3 muzzle control.
Regardless of what happens, muzzle control will minimize the damage.


Why would the kid have ammo for the weapons?
 
First, I don't see how it would be legal for LE to confiscate all of them unless they are auto, stolen or used in the commission of a crime. It's sounds like Mom asked LE to get rid of them for her.
Second, a FMJ .45 would just punch a hole through soft tissue, so it would be very survivable as long as it didn't hit anything vital.
Third, the primary reason this happened was because the Mom was scared of guns. If she had not been, the chances are this kid would have gotten proper safety instruction.
